About The Event
Course Description
The Sanskrit name for headstand is Salambha Sirsasana. Salambha means “support” and support will be our focus in this inversion workshop. We will look at the architecture of a headstand and learn how to build a safe and systematic practice.
Learning to stand on one’s head can feel like a daunting prospect. You will be guided compassionately so you can approach this asana without fear, but with confidence and a clear understanding of what to do in an open class setting. This is a great opportunity to deepen your physical and emotional practices.
We will spend time focusing on the shoulders and arms, building strength and flexibility so they can provide the grounding for this asana, while also taking consideration of how the whole body needs to be integrated to feel truly stable in the pose. Alternatives and variations will be explored, and we will see how, by adopting a step-by-step approach, our practice can systematically and safely evolve.
The workshop is suitable for yoga beginners or for people who have been practicing but find the headstand too daunting, or for those who have reached a mid point and can’t hold their position.
If you have any neck related injuries, or diagnosed osteoporosis, this workshop is not recommended.
